Voice Spoofing

Last reviewed: 2026-01-03

Voice spoofing refers to any technique that makes a caller appear to be someone they are not through manipulated voice characteristics. This includes AI voice cloning, voice changers, and pre-recorded audio playback. Voice spoofing is commonly used in impersonation scams targeting family members, executives, or authority figures. Unlike caller ID spoofing (which manipulates the displayed number), voice spoofing manipulates the actual audio. SAF recommends treating any unexpected voice request for money or sensitive information as verification-required through independent channels.
